A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

You don't even have to dignify him with a response at this point. Just say that your looking forward to the working with the next legitimate leader of the United States
Gotta refute it or the orange guy will think they agreed.
He’s still got the football for the next two years…for now.
I guarantee his handlers replaced it with a football phone some time ago, and I doubt he’s noticed. Even when it rings
They literally took the suit case and have given the dumbass a football shaped phone with a nuclear sticker on it
Exactly! You think Trump knows what it actually looks like? It’s called a football, so football shaped.
Although I doubt they even cared enough to find an actual nuclear sticker. I bet they found an old Mr. Yuk sticker in a drawer somewhere and slapped that on, knowing Trump would never notice
This isn't a Trump thing. The EU is simply no longer a major power. The next leader of the US might be more polite about it, but they will also put Europe on the menu, so to say.
Weird then that Russia, China and the US are all so concerned over what the EU is doing?
If the EU is a fading power what about the US who's strength lay in the quality of their logistics matched with a vast array of potent allies? So much of their institutional knowledge has been lost, stripped out by a man who thought that testosterone levels made for a better military. Thats not to even mention the cimplete destruction of so many civilian institutions because of doge. All their allies goodwill has been pissed away because they looked at the sweetheart deals they were getting and demanded more and more and more. Their economy was bet entirely on AI.
Then what of Russia? It's economy is bleeding out much like it's military and diplomatically it has become a pariah.
China is doing better than Russia or the US by a considerable margin but it has it's own problems and is staring down the barrel of demographic collapse.
The EU is not without it's flaws but I find it strange in the current geopolitical landscape to look at the EU and declare it the fading power.
The EU has a lot of money and resources that can be taken over (mostly by the US, Russia might get a deal to keep eastern Europe neutral).
A huge advantage the EU had was that they had good relations with all three superpowers. They had Russian fuel, Chinese components, the protection of the US military, and access to the markets of all three. That was an insanely lucrative position to be in. Now, the EU no longer has access to Russian or Gulf fuel, and must buy much more expensive fuel from the US. (A deal with Canada could help here.) It has started a trade war with China, one in which 'the cards are made in China'. And now it has to either accept an unequal treaty with the US (less bad in the short run), or break relations with the last of the superpowers (probably the less bad choice in the long run).
Another problem is the loss of the (neo)colonies. Many European countries had political control, or at least economic influence, over countries in Asia and Africa. But this weakens as those countries develop, and with China expanding their relations through the Belt and Road initiative, these countries can now play off the EU / IMF against China to get better deals, or even switch to Chinese loans (very useful if China is already their biggest trading partner).
As for the US and Russia, yes they are also weakening, but they started off higher so they have longer to fall before they lose the superpower status. They also have the two biggest nuclear arsenals on the planet (~1700 deployed warheads each), more than six times the size of third-placed France (~300).
