I an laughing but I would also be horrified in this situation.

I wouldn't be horrified, I would just be like "Oh I thought you were talking to me, ignore me!" with a small laugh

Some people address people weirdly, imo it would be more awkward if it was turned and they were talking to you and you didn't respond.

This has been in my head since I've seen it as a young child. For like 15 years this was the only thing I knew about Venture Bros.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Meh it's a pub and this is expected.

[–] Blibittyblah@futurology.today 29 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Hey. Hey dude. You a thirsty little boy?

Promise to say this to a random male the next time you go to a bar.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 5 days ago

If it's a queer venue there's gotta be like at least a 30% chance this actually goes really well lol. Probly +50% if you're attractive and confident. I mean idk but I would bet money on this if we were gonna test it

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I have had similar said to me, while I don't roll that way, I do think it's funny. I'm dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to that.

No one asks if I’m a thirsty boy :(

I am…

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

You've gotta make them wonder

It requires spunk stat max level to pull off, which OOP clearly has as evidenced by her username

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don’t have that kind of stamina.

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

maybe the gay bars in your area are classier

or maybe it’s just a different time in 2020+

[–] Blibittyblah@futurology.today 2 points 4 days ago

I’m not always sure what decade it is.

[–] dontbelievethis@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It would be more awkward for you not to react to a stranger calling you thirsty little boy?

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago (3 children)

yea, just because they call you it doesn't make it true, if it seems someone is talking to you, it isn't awkward to reply to it but, if someone was talking to you and you ignore them, it just makes an already awkward situation more awkward. It's much better to then respond to the person, then once realized it wasn't to you, saying "oh I thought you were talking to me" and lightly laugh to indicate that it was in good faith/you took no offense/that it was a silly mistake.

By not responding at all, if it turned out they /were/ talking to you, you are ignoring them, then when you do find out they were talking to you it would be even more awkward than if you just responded normally, and whats worse from that is, it would be awkwardness that you created by not replying instead of it being awkwardness that the other person created by calling you a thirsty little boy.

In this case it would have worked out, since they wern't talking to you in the first place, but... if they were talking to you then it would be hella awk ignoring them. And that's ignoring that they'll almost certainly try to address you again louder and potentially drawing more attention onto the situation.

I don't know, maybe I'm just looking way too far into it but, that's my thought process.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago

that they'll almost certainly try to address you again louder and potentially drawing more attention onto the situation.

"Are you a thirsty little boy?"

...

"I SAID, ARE YOU A THIRSTY BOY‽‽‽"

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I didn't need this explanation but I appreciate that you made it :)

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

yea sorry lol! it's probably way more words than they expected as a response.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 2 points 5 days ago

You see, I also often write extremely long replies in situations that probably never called for it

[–] socsa@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Look, if I am challenged to a game of horny chicken in public by a stranger then I am bound by oath to accept.

[–] foofiepie@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

I would stop at the bar and make a new friend.
