Their have been power outages that have effected my work. The excitement of getting to go home being crushed by a generator kicking on is terrible.

Yes, you have an effect on something, but you affect something else.
yeah, we've had power and internet issues shut down the shop a handful of times
cancelling a meeting is meh, there's often at least one more scheduled at the same time or one immediately following it. it's hardly an afternoon off
I'm glad my last job was a shitshow for that. There was no generator and we'd even get extreme cold days off
