I like the caps being attached because it means you can't lose the cap. It didn't even occur to me that it might have to do with littering
Never in my life have I actually lost a cap, but I have been splashed in the face multiple times by those idiotic attached caps.
Me neither.
That said, up until they changed it, those metal flaps for opening beverage cans were a serious problem, and I could imagine that many consumers are less considerate than me wrt plastic caps as well.
It's just a small part of the ongoing enshittification of real life products, and this one's well-intentioned at least.

No. I'm just old enough to remember that they did change for very similar reasons.
Orginially they were ripp-off caps. I find these literally everywhere while metal detecting...
