Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

To be fair, the gun manufacturer IS the guy slinging it as well. They are in this instance the same person. Anthropic would be the manufacture, distributor and gunman for example.
The reality of the matter "its just a tool" is both literally just factual it IS the reality. It also makes a cheap and easy scape goat. But this is a problem not just ai but damn well near every major tool has had people use to sideline the harm caused by the disingenuous till the law and public understanding catches up. It's why snake oil salesmen works so well. Your not lying. Your just not telling the whole truth and misleading by virtue of ignorance and bad faith.
So yeah, i entirely agree. Its a fucking annoying ass frustrating piece of pro-ai bullshit from bad-faith actors when used that way. I fucking hate it.
The number of people who are actually treating LLMs as the tool they are and respecting their limitations, their problems and how shitty they can be. While being honest and upfront about them. Is small, far smaller then i wish it was.
But at the same time, those people trying to honest also keep getting doxed, getting hated on, being targeted and having violence directed at them from communities they arn't use to having to deal with that from. Which is ALSO something damn well near every major tools early adopters had to deal with. And like normal those early adopters turn inward and try to hide and insulate themselves from that misdriected hate.
Resulting in the only people being vocal are the fucktards with no standards or morals abusing the new thing for cheap profit and clout. While anyone with morals feels shame and tries to hide it to not upset others or disrupt them. Its a shitty cycle, its happened repeatedly though history, and theres basically nothing to be done about it so long as there are assholes willing to lie, cheat and fuck over others. AI is REALLY bad for it too cause of how low the bar is to become a snake oiler for it.
My point really just boils down to, hate the assholes and the abusers. Leave the guys trying to use it ethically and honestly alone how ever few of them there are, and don't blame a tool for a human problem.
No it's not. The only input you have with an AI is telling it to do something, which is less like a hammer and more like an employee. AI is not, in any way, a tool.
I'm not going to insult your intelligence by saying you don't already know this. I'm not going to insult your morality by saying you do already know this. I'm just going to leave.
Thats a tool... The carrying out of anothers design IS one of the definitions of a tool. Employees ARE tools. Its a horridly demeaning definition yes, but it IS one of the definitions. It's where the insultive form of the word comes from for heaven sake.
They are literally tools. Even if you go by the more generic definition of just something that is used to perform an operation or action. Its still a tool.
If you want to go by ONLY the very strictest definition and ignore all secondary ones. Then computers as a whole arn't tools full stop. Only an object that is directly used to multiply the force of a manual labor task is a tool or the cutting edge of said objects are tools.
So either its a tool, or we are being pedantic idiots picking and choosing cause our fee fees are hurt and we want to play stupid word games. There is no inbetween here. So pick your side. Are computers tools? Or are we playing stupid word games.
No, a tool is a thing someone uses to carry out their design by themself. An AI does it for you without any input after the initial instruction. They are not tools any more than an employee is.
You're either an idiot or a liar. I'll let you decide which, but as I said before, I am done with you. I'm sure, as someone who assumes and mocks someone else's feelings, you'll take this with grace and move on from a lost cause.
