I don't watch the news anymore because it feels manufactured. Who's defending the rapists?

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Trump is defending the Cornell Rapists after having taken out a full page ad demanding the death penalty for the falsely accused Central Park Five.

Tons of people are claiming that it's a "Men's Rights Issue" and that if she consented to sex, she consented to rape. A lot of "Regret is not rape" bullshit that ignores the fact that she initially consented, but then seven people raped her.

[–] freely1333@reddthat.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I think the issue is that the initial report lists her as always consenting to everything and the men respecting when she said no to anything. Also how she was not really considering it to be anything like rape until everyone found out about it and then she was uninvited to the Halloween party (which she still planned on attending btw).

I think the disconnect is between “feels rapey” and “legally rape.” And I don’t think that any of the right is defending it as morally good or anything just saying that her feeling taken advantage of after the fact cannot be grounds for it becoming rape, in a legal sense.

And I don’t think that any of the right is defending it as morally good or anything

Buddy, I guarantee there are people literally saying that she deserved/still deserves to be raped.

I'm not sure why you're here pretending that conservatives aren't vile.

[–] dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 3 points 8 hours ago

Not even just conservatives. Plenty of liberals are rape apologist shitheads too.

[–] freely1333@reddthat.com 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I mean I would believe it but everything I have seen has conservatives saying she was not raped. Not that she deserved to be raped or anything like that.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 hour ago

Oh that's way better, never mind.

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Didn't she only say yes to the first three guys, not the seven that came after?

[–] freely1333@reddthat.com 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

She said a lot of things is kind of the issue and it is clear via the texts that her own opinion on it changed as outside opinions started to judge her based on what happened. I swear that this kind of gray area culture war thing is brought up less organically than we think. An item that is less than clear cut appears and each side is fed a slightly different version of the story leading up to an election that reminds them how terrible/removed from reality the other side is. It’s almost like it’s an election year or something.

And I say this as someone left of the democrats - it’s just exhausting seeing the same thing play out over and over again.

And I’m sure even I am missing information on the case as every source leaves out pieces that don’t support whichever side they happen to be for.

No one calls up the police just to say they consented. Something's rotten

[–] freely1333@reddthat.com 1 points 13 hours ago

Yeah I mean she said she was raped but her story only consisted of her consenting (disclaimer: story that made the condensed version the DA saw so could yes have problems)

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago

I think trump took out that add and defending white rapists certainly fits his modus operandi.

I'd ask whether that's legal, but that doesn't seem to matter anymore
