They were oblivious to the derogatory use of the word ni**ah. They have a church in a mostly black community where the churchgoing youth was dwindling so they made a rap video to address the local youth in a way they thought was fitting and hoped that young people would attend the sermons more. The local community enjoyed it because the couple didn't do it bad spirited. They profusely apologized for using the n-word, and explained what they were hoping to achieve.

The Dallas Observer also criticized the song, saying: "it's cheesy. It's bad. It's painful." It described the song as having a negative impact on public perception of Christian rap.

If anything this video probably improved the public perception by associating it with something lighthearted and fun.
