You can vote third party, the important thing is to be a voter rather than a non-voter.
Unless you're organized in your non-vote or 3rd party vote and can make a unified public statement like Perot voters or the Abandon voters then in the current US system what you're advocating for is worthless.
Third party vote is a non vote in the US two party system.
In the USA, voting 3rd party is just voting red. We learned this in 2016 when Clinton was a "sure thing" and voting for Gary Johnson was an ethical protest vote.
Go to any election and look at the total number of votes 3rd party get compared to non-voters.
