Also "this is how it works (in the US)" and, as always, forgetting the rest of the world exists and works differently. EU has done several things lately to speed up things like this, and it's been better than what's written here for many years/decades.
Reading almost anything about the US as a European never stops being like hearing about how we used to have it 30 years ago.
