That's a hard sell for anyone who actually believes in their religion, for the same reason you'd find it a non-starter to ignore your own concept of morality when doing politics. "Keep religion out of politics" is a nonsensical statement, for the simple reason that to a religious populace (which is most of them) their morality will to some degree come from their religion.
