I will say there are directions I don't care for, but at the same time I don't know a ton if that's what will direct us in a better way (I'm more for better social nets, more programs to help that need it sort of thing and probably strengthening our domestic production of essential items). I'm holding some judgment but so far his dealing with the US and other nations appears to be going to what I think is positive. At this point our international relations are going to account for a lot (least in my limited view) so strengthening alliances with like minded democratic countries is in our best interest.
Blah I suck a politics so mostly above is my personal view, I always thought the US was odd but we had to play small dog next to them. Now they're playing schoolyard bully with a maniac at the helm so we gotta make sure we don't get bitten. Stakes are quite different than before, the USA could steamroll Canada in general then be in another forever war, but that idea doesn't even phase their 'leader' once someone says no to him. Cause no one can say no to a narcissist without some bite back.
Yes, I understand the stated reasoning and why it makes sense within a capitalist framework. I'm saying that's bad, that isn't a solution to any systemic problem stemming from capitalism.
Also, no, the US cannot just fucking invade Canada the way it does colonial holdings in the Global South. Not only is the financialization system between the two states an existential deterrent, but it also has more efficient means of coercing desirable policies out of the Canadian state. The US military is fucking giant and cannot just be thrown around; look how fucked it got in a short conflict with a country they are less intertwined with.
No, the US being imperialist as always does not justify passively supporting the reinforcement of extractive capitalism and genocidal settler-colonialism In Canada.
