What's with all these otherwise reasonable seeming people being right wing asshats deep down? It really twists up what their underlying reasoning for supporting these things are.

What does active mean here? You linked to a profile that only someone with an account can open and quantify.
That said, the furthest left his politics have ever been has been center-right (this is pretty clear if you've watched his videos) but his overall soapbox has always been about consumer rights.
