We got lucky with Felis sylvestris; all other small wildcats have been far too paranoid and aggressive to be domesticable.
They domesticated themselves. Saw an opening and took it. We got lucky they chose us.
"These weird apes are just leaving mice around? And they're letting me eat them?? Suckers!" and now it's too late, I get to kiss their little heads!
There was this meme of some Russian dude who kept a caracal as a pet. I've also seen people have servals as pets. I think they'll likely just be as unpredictable as house cats but the damage they can do is much bigger.
