Friend, I don't think you understand just how much we hate the metric system. We'd stop driving before we measured fuel in liters.

It’s funny, because the U.S. uses the metric system for a lot of things. (Like soda or street drugs!)
But.. yeah. For fuel, they’d probably start charging per quart before they tried charging per liter.

The temporary solution in 1980s Germany, when prices climbed over 1 DM/l, was to charge per 0.5 l. So they might charge per 0.5 gal now.
