They kinda missed the boat on that one. We passed the point of diminishing returns in graphics hardware years ago and now the only reason to get a high-end card is conspicuous consumption.
Poor corporations, they were too slow ;-; /s
If I understood correctly you’re saying that the hardware is not improving that fast, right? I had no idea that was the case
More that games already look good enough that the improvements from better hardware are getting harder and harder to notice.
But from what I’ve heard (at least one year ago) modern games still have the latest hardware listed as recommended
Game developers are following the same trendline as software developers - be lazy in your programming, chug unnecessary resources, and let the end user spend their way out of it.
As an example, I think Clair Obscure is one of the best games I've played in years, but those unnecessary, egregious particle effects in EVERY single environment with NO ability to just turn them OFF are development malpractice.
