For me, if I ask for an unpopular opinion and you say something about pineapple on pizza I'm going to assume you have no personality.

Still overrated. Right place, right time. If it wasn't them, it could have just as easily been someone else.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Contrarianism doesn't make up for a lack of personality. You not liking something doesn't make it overrated.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Beatles are overrated and liking them to the degree you do shows a lack of originality.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip -1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Because being a contrarian is so original in today's world. If you were smart enough to know how dumb you sound you'd be embarrassed.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not contrarian. I've never thought much of the Beatles. It wasn't until they got their own whole band game (back when those were popular) that I realised Beatles were somehow enjoyed by more than just really old people.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Okay, but that's down to your taste, which has nothing to do with if they're overrated or not.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm starting to think you don't know what "overrated" means.

And now you don't know how to use proverbs. Is this normal for Beatles fans? Are they usually so... Uneducated?

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I could ask you the same thing. Because you sound like an absolute moron who isn't smart enough to know how dumb he is.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Except I'm not some Beatles fan. So you can't ask me the same thing. Another example of your limitations. There are now... 4, in my counting.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

You could attempt to make an argument other than "I don't like them so you're wrong."

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Except my argument is they're not influential and they're overrated. I guess those are a little too complex for you, but unfortunately for you I not going to change that to something you want.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

An argument that is completely negated by a simple Google search of "what artists are influenced by the Beatles?". By this point you're just projecting your own shortcomings onto me because you lack the ability to pull your head out of your ass.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True. But a lot of people praising something more than merited does.

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Idk if you put someone in a pilot seat that isn't a pilot, it's an extraordinary effort and newsworthy if they don't crash the plane.

Even if they got given the plane, they are still great pilots. Every album is novel and there are so many.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

I don't think this person will admit that. They've convinced themselves that they know more about it than pretty much every artist that came after the Beatles.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If the beatles were fingerless or deaf, or had never heard music before, you might have a point.

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 23 hours ago

You're so mean

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think the dispute is over what defines overrated. I think they can be aptly called overated if you are looking at the technical aspects of the actual music they wrote.

But if we're defining it by influence on a genre or era of music then it would be hard to make the same claim.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

By no metric can the amount of classic albums they put out in a 5 year span be considered overrated.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 0 points 23 hours ago

Yes, but that is again another metric by which to judge. The amount of albums does not affect the technical complexity of the music. And I am by no means trying to claim that music needs to be technically advanced to be good, it's just another way in which an individual could possibly be judging if something is or isn't overated. The quality of the music itself is always going to be subjective, while the cultural impact of the music is not. So I can see both sides of the argument.
