Sequoia is running well for me and while 27 looks good in some ways, at some stage I expect diminishing returns such as slowness.

I have managed Macs by the thousands. Literally. Always update as long as hardware is supported.

That’s hard to argue with. Would you say the slowdown on my 2011 MBP was due to hardware or software?

Software. Browsers and email clients get heavier. There have also been several generations of architectural changes between that model and what is out now.
