They are the fossil fuel provinces. Alberta is by far the most entitled of every provinces. They were living by Canada's teet for a long time and then found a way to process the oil sands. By this point, they became rich. They at first tried to manage this new riches properly, establishing a provincial fund, a generation fund that the Norwegians basically copied. But then they started to elect conservative governments. Those governments reduced taxes as much as they could, slashed social programs, spent every dime they could and now they complain about the rest of Canada (especially Quebec) because they're not as rich as them. Today, their generational fund is mostly non existent while the Norwegian one is the biggest investment fund on earth.

They are the perfect example of entitled there is. They always complain that they don't want to pay the federal government for other provinces while a few years ago (decade, was in 2008 I think) oil became so cheap for a brief moment and Alberta really struggled as their oil extraction is expensive and they basically burned through their money. All they did is complain for the federal government to help them. And they went right back to their usual behavior when oil went back up. Complete assholes.

Alberta is completely captured by the oil and gas industry. Its population is docile and captured. Whatever any government does, they always vote conservative, no matter what. Saskatchewan is less bad as it's quieter, but their voting pattern is mostly the same. So for any federal government, why answer to Alberta's pleading as what ever they do, it will never change the outcome of the vote? It's good anyway as their pleadings are unreasonable. They prefer electing traitors that meet and side with Trump behind the federal government's back during a trade war, against the rest of Canada.
