the Bible does not command the senseless beating of children

[–] SnailMagnitude@mander.xyz 1 points 22 hours ago

Just sensible utter destruction of children:

"Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass."

[–] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How much child-beating do you believe is sensible?

Are you saying they should never be stoned to death in the public square? The bible says otherwise.

If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Are you saying children shouldn't be hit with a rod? The bible says otherwise.

Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

And before you say something like "it's actually a shepherd's rod used to guide-" Nope, it's explicitly for striking children:

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.

I called my mom a bitch because she made excuses for abusing us instead of admitting it was wrong. Should I be put to death?

For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.

People like you are the reason my parents are getting away with child abuse.

can I have the verses? And the old testament was fulfilled by Christ. That's why we can mix fabrics and eat shellfish

can I have the verses?

You lack a functioning search engine? Fine, I'll do your goddam homework for you.

That's Deuteronomy 21:18-21.

Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

Proverbs 13:24.

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

Proverbs 22:15.

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.

Proverbs 23:13.

For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.

Exodus 21:17.

And the old testament was fulfilled by Christ. That's why we can mix fabrics and eat shellfish

He "fulfilled" commands to take slaves and rape them? What do you think "fulfilled" means?

If you believe Jesus is god, then you believe Jesus commanded those things. Even if he later changed his mind and/or the law, he still commanded heinous abuse. You cannot excuse that.

Also, his entire pitch is "submit completely to me or be punished for all time."

There ain't no hate like christian love.

Stop defending child abuse.

Stop defending baseless death cults.

Deuteronomy 21:20 And they shall say to them: ‘This our son is reckless and disobedient. He shows contempt when listening to our admonitions. He occupies himself with carousing, and self-indulgence, and feasting.’

this verse is focused more on the sin of gluttony

Fulfilled means that those precepts were written in preparation of Christ, and Christ has come, and suffered on the Cross and rose again.

Exodus 21, again, has been fulfilled.

Can I have the slaves and rape verses?

Mark 10:5 But Jesus responded by saying: “It was due to the hardness of your heart that he wrote that precept for you.
