I'm glad someone said something about it, because I don't like having to see it when I look at the main page. The uneven fingers disturb me. I'm sure we have a few artists on here that wouldn't mind their work getting main-page treatment. You could run a contest!
I'd want approval from the site operator before people get out their pencils.
Yeah, 100%, which is why I'm making the case to convince them. If nothing else, I'm letting my voice be heard.
They did run one. AI art had quite a few slots, and this AI slop won. Real art was contributed but didn't win
Edit: Turns out it was all AI.
You're asking artists to work for "exposure?"
Something to remember is that the Threadiverse runs on unpaid labour. Someone donating their time to create art is no different to someone donating their time to run the server or develop Piefed ot whatever.
There's unlikely to be any exposure from the art anyway, so any artist should only do it because they want to contribute to the ecosystem not because they think they will receive exposure in lieu of payment.
There's a difference between offering your own labor for free and asking others to donate their time for "exposure".
There's no exposure, you're the one suggesting that is the payment but no one is offering exposure, they are asking for volunteer help to contribute to a volunteer run ecosystem.
Many instances ask people to give their labour for free without waiting for someone to offer. Lemmy.world ran a full interview process to appoint volunteer admins.
This is only ever a problem when the thing they're being asked to do for 'exposure' is normal paid work. In this context nobody is being paid, their work isn't enriching someone else, they would be contributing like all the lemmy devs, the server operators and everyone else contributing to the operation of the site. Nobody's approached a specific artist and requested they do this for 'exposure', someone’s simply suggested that, oh hey, like everyone else that contributes their time to the site, maybe an artist would like to contribute theirs as well.
Pull your head out of your arse.
I'm asking for the image to be replaced, and suggesting a way to do that. If we do that, and if there's compensation, can be a later discussion.
That's a very long way to spell "yes".
Are you offering to raise a collection?
No? But I'm not the one offering "exposure" for art.
You're not willing to pay the artist anything, either.
I'm not asking them to donate their time.
And you're not the artist, so if you could kindly leave the conversation that'd be great!
