The larger reason for having numbers on your home is so the fire department can easily find your home if it's on fire.
Serious.
If you ever call 911 for a medical emergency, send someone* outside to flag down the ambulance.
*Ideally, there's one person to stay on the line with the 911 operator. The operator will be able to give first aid instructions.
