How is this racist @TrumpRapesKids?
What do you think the motivation behind them choosing the name Osama is?
Where is the name Osama most common? What things do those folks mainly have in common?
This seems so similar to Trump whining "Barack Hussein Obama!"
Also, this is more recent fun from the same person who posted this meme.
I don't understand why you keep posting this one image and calling it ironic racism. It's actively making fun of racists. You couldn't find any other examples (from a confirmed satire writer) to prove your point?
I didn't want to spend much time on his page, and that was enough.
When did the bulk of you decide that if someone says a racist thing offends them you have the right to jump in and tell them their feelings and experiences are invalid? Are you a black or brown Muslim? From the middle east?
Last time I was in college it was very much the opposite, and we were all taught that when someone says a thing is racist and is clearly bothered by it a crowd of people jumping on them and telling them they're stupid and wrong is pretty much the most fucked up response you could give.
Bro, I’m pretty sure this is just someone rearranging letters in a humorous manner and because things like FAANG sound too cool for shit corpos. I think you’re reading WAY too much into it.
Deciding to use the name Osama to refer to a group of evil corporations isn't an accident.
If it was Adolf, would that be Germanophobia?
If WW2 happened much more recently and the US far right responded by trying to stoke racial fear of Germans in it's follower? Probably.
Well of course it’s not an accident. That’s sort of the joke in rearranging the monikers.
However thinking this has anything to do with the racist way MAGA presents candidates with names like Obama, or really any candidate of color with a non traditional name, I don’t think they equate as they’re intended to suggest they aren’t native Americans, and somehow have ties to foreign powers or interests.
And these are just corporations.
Again thinking you’re reading way to into it
Do you want a few dozen news articles describing the way they stress those names as clear racist and Islamophobic dog whistles? They're all over the place. It has nothing to do with not being born in America. They stress "scary" sounding names to rile their base up about Muslims and terrorists.
The same exact thing this meme is doing. If Trump didn't have huge ties to all the big evil corporations and wanted to make them look bad it's the sort of thing he'd probably post himself.
Check out the guy who posted it. Does he seem like a great person to you?
You realize my last comment was on how MAGA sounds dog whistles over anyone with a foreign sounding name yeah? No shit. We’re on the same page regarding that bit.
This meme isn’t doing the same thing because this has nothing to do with Islam, foreign companies, or anything of the sort.
This joke is over giving these companies an undesirable acronym related to a guy who bombed the WTC. These companies lack a race or religion to tie to the moniker.
Do you think jokes about Trump hiding in a food cart depicted like Sadam in a cave are racist as well in this regard?
Obama is a black man. They try to stress his middle name to raise Islamophobic fear. Literally the same thing this is doing with Osama.
No, how would that be stoking Islamophobia?
I missed where race or religion were being highlighted in this meme. Can you point to the black or Muslim company in this picture please?
When Trump says "Barack Hussein Obama" he's not mentioning race or religion either. He doesn't need to. Most people in his base tie the name Hussein to Saddam so stressing it is all he needs to do to get them thinking of spooky scary Muslim terrorist monster dictator bad evil people.
Note that the guy who posted this meme also has a black joke on his page from like 2 days ago.
When Trump says that it’s because he’s referring to a black man with a foreign name. How do you not get that?
Corporations are not people. Corporations don’t have color. Corporations don’t have religion.
You are equating irrelevancies.
I have no interest in bickering with you. You're defending a racist meme posted by a racist techbro finance guy. Good job.
Your argument is nonsense, but the meme you attached reminded me of this:
"Ironic racism" is still just racism. Honestly I have way more respect for people willing to look me in the face and call me a ni**er than this coy playful "we're just joking lol" shit.
That joke isn't racist. It's making fun of how cops are racist and 40 percent of cop families are involved in domestic violence reports.
They repeated that joke to an outspoken black guy complaining about this post being a racist meme posted by a racist person on Twitter in the first place.
Neither one of those jokes are racist. The first one is lampshading the flimsy logic racists use. The butt of the joke are the racists.
When someone is bothered by a racist joke you don't get to chime in and say it wasn't really racist and explain that their feelings and life experiences are wrong.
I explained the joke. Not your feelings. If someone is making enemies out of allies, I will chime in. If you're not a fan of dark humor, just ignore it.
It's not dark humor. It's racist humor. Yes, it offends black people. Yes, the original meme posted offends Muslims. Not all black people, not all Muslims, but not all of a group needs to speak up and say they're universally offended by a racist thing for it to be wrong.
You're now basically telling me that I'm thin skinned and should just ignore racist jokes on Lemmy so you can all giggle at them.
It's ironic as hell that the responses I've gotten in here have been the ones I'd have expected from a Republican Convention. Not folks who like to think of themselves as caring and accepting and against racism and homophobia.
I'm not telling you to ignore racist jokes, but I will tell you that you are thin skinned. This is a media literacy problem. If you break down the structure of the jokes, you'll realize that they're making fun of bigots, not minorities.
I'm near 50 and have two degrees. It's sort of telling that you assumed someone offended by a joke you don't see as racist must be uneducated. You seem very at home with casual racism.
Gollee, boss, you rite. I must dun be ill litrat. Can ya help an ingant nigga undastand how his fool self dun sawd racism where dey ain't none?
