Uh. No it wasn't. Google footed the bill for years until they were able to make money on it. I'm not saying poor Google but to assume youtube would still exist without Google's cash is very unlikely.

YouTube wasn't created or owned by Google, originally.

I know. They bought YouTube and allowed it to grow for many years. The internet that it was Google being magnanimous but it was Google having a plan.
