I'm not going to watch the video, simply due to the clickbait-y screencap but I was raised in a southern baptist household and from the time I could sit still in a pew, I can remember being taught two things. First, you have to believe in the existence of god in spite of the fact that nothing will happen in your life to prove his existence. Secondly, if you ever began to doubt the existence, you would were courting an eternity in the Weber grill-style hell for all eternity.

Of course conditioning people from birth not to think about things but just believe what you're told is going to result in people that are poor critical thinkers. This seems like a Captain Obvious-level revelation.

His stuff is actually pretty good. Well-sourced, concise. But yes clickbaity.

Anyway I don't blame you, video is slow compared to reading. Here's the transcript

Why religious people are less intelligent. There's a psychological reason for that. In 2013, psychologist Myron Zuckerman at the University of
0:07
7 seconds
Rochester ran one of the largest studies ever conducted on the relationship between intelligence and religious belief. He analyzed decades of research
0:15
15 seconds
across multiple countries. And what he found is wild. Religious people scored lower on tests that measured their intelligence than non-religious people.
0:24

Zuckerman updated the analysis in 2020.

83 studies spanning over 90 years of research. all pointing in the same direction. Religious people are less intelligent. The evidence is concrete.
0:36
36 seconds
So now the question is why? Zuckerman identified three reasons religious people are less intelligent. The first reason is conformity. Religion requires you to accept a fixed set of beliefs.
0:46
46 seconds
Smart people push back on that. Smart people don't accept because I said so as an answer. Religion has God saying because I said so a lot. Religious
0:55
55 seconds
people are trained from birth to obey authority without asking questions. Smart people ask a lot of questions.
1:01
1 minute, 1 second
Authoritarian people don't like questions. Religious people grow up and obey Trump without asking questions.
1:08
1 minute, 8 seconds
Same muscle, same obedience, different costume. The second reason is analytical thinking. Religion runs on gut feeling,
1:16
1 minute, 16 seconds
intuition, and blind faith. No proof, no facts, just believe. Just believe stories from 2,000 years ago. Analytical
1:24
1 minute, 24 seconds
thinking directly undermines religious beliefs. We want proof. We want evidence. We like facts. We like
1:31
1 minute, 31 seconds
repeatable tests. Religion does not give you any of that. Zuckerman found that the more you think analytically, the less likely you are to believe in
1:39
1 minute, 39 seconds
something that cannot be tested. That is why the least educated counties in America are the most religious and the most Republican. Go figure. The third
1:47
1 minute, 47 seconds
reason is everything religion gives you, being smart also gives you. Religion helps you cope with the fear of death.
1:53
1 minute, 53 seconds
Intelligence reduces the fear on its own. Religion tells you how to behave and gives you a set of rules to follow from a 2,000-year-old book you have to
2:02
2 minutes, 2 seconds
follow or else. Someone who is smart has their own moral compass, their own sense of right and wrong. You don't need to borrow your morals from a book when
2:10
2 minutes, 10 seconds
you're smart, empathetic, and have your own internal moral compass. Religion makes you feel worthy and significant.
2:17
2 minutes, 17 seconds
When you're smart, you don't need an invisible friend for grown-ups to feel significant. Your accomplishments help you do that. For people with lower intelligence, religion fills a hole. For
2:26
2 minutes, 26 seconds
people with higher intelligence, the hole was never there. Religion is not a belief system for smart people. Religion is a coping mechanism for people who are not smart enough to cope on their own.
2:36
2 minutes, 36 seconds
The data on this is not even close. The less intelligent you are, the more likely you are to be religious. The more religious you are, the more likely you
2:44
2 minutes, 44 seconds
are to follow a man who lies to you every single day, and you call it faith.
2:48
2 minutes, 48 seconds
Stupid people need to be told what to think. And religion has been training them to be obedient their entire lives.
