The problem with angel is that there's always something wrong with it.
Buffy regularly has seasons that are clearly what it should be and it's easy to remember the baseline of what it is. Season 1 is monster of the week, high schoolers finding their footing. Season 2 has Angel, 3 has Faith. You don't ever feel like "wait why isn't soandso here".
Angel is the opposite. Every watch I've wondered why some characters take so long to arrive or leave so soon when they're so iconic. The overarching story also kinda meanders and I think part of the problem is that Angel is just a worse center for a show than Buffy was (or Cordelia was, I'm still mad she was written out). Also season 4 (or whatever the season with Connor being edgy) was actively bad. Then unfortunately the show was canceled after the best season where it felt like it finally understood itself.
Still absolutely worth a watch, it did great things for a few of the characters of Buffy who had to leave Sunnydale, as well as having more post face turn Cordelia and some of the best Faith scenes.
