Truth. This is sadly something you learn after landing your first job, not before.
My eye opening moment was seeing the technical guy at the interview light up when I said I'm open to learning their domain knowledge. I didn't have a degree, but I made up for it by showing interest in the field by doing my own projects, as a hobby. I was the only guy in the department without a degree for a long time.
First job hunt took a while, second and third was basically on the spot, first application sent.
