both are in a sense trumpian/post-truth. the current one being swept under the rug and pretending nothing happened, and the marin case pretending something more happened than did
This corruption case has had a parliamentary vote about confidence in the government during the summer break in a special session and has been by far the biggest thing in the news for a while now, being talked about constantly. And the thing isn't even over yet...
it has been a show for show's sake. a vote with a majority coalition doesn't really matter until they start to vote against each other
I'm just talking about it being swept under the rug. Parliamentary vote on confidence of government and an investigation by the chancellor of justice is as much as you'd expect from most of these, most of the time. And as far as media goes, being the top news by far for however long this has been going on is the highest that can really go.
Some would definitely want to sweep it under the rug but that hasn't happened. Far from it.
sure, is being actively swept under the rug is different. I guess we'll see if this ever leads to anything concrete (and not just "oh they will get less votes from the public")
This sort of old boy network corruption revelations rarely leads to much parliamentary or criminal repercussions. This has been a very widely reported on and has done reputational damage to National Coalition and it might be the best result we'll get.
There's a chance the chancellor of justice's investigation results in something but we'll see.
