It's been a while since I've read the Dresden books, but IIRC it sticks pretty close to the formula:
There's a new threat in town.
Dresden investigates.
Dresden gets in over his head and mouths off at the baddies.
Dresden gets the shit kicked out of him.
Dresden refuses to give up. His grit is key to vanquishing the threat even when it looked impossible.
He does fuego a lot in the early books. I think that lessens later on, but IDK how soon it tapers off.
I do enjoy how he upgrades his equipment from story to story.
