Created as an evolution of White People Twitter and other tweet-capture subreddits.

A serial killer wouldn't necessarily do well in this situation. They tend to get off on being sneaky and killing people with no way to defend themselves. A combat vet is probably their worst possible choice, which is why it's a popular trope.
Hannibal lecter and true crime make serial killers look like supervillains but really they're just Steven Miller if he was broke.
Seriously Dahmer had a victim RETURNED TO HIM BY THE POLICE. Not a mastermind, a higher intelligence wouldn’t be subverted.
Not only that, there were a bunch of his neighbors telling the police that he was killing people and that his apartment smelled like the literal pile of rotting corpses that it actually was, and the police response was, “You’re black/gay, we don’t care.”
Dahmer was a psychotic, tactless, idiot fucking dumbass that genuinely did not seem to be even trying to hide his actions, and the police were still too fucking stupid, lazy, and bigoted to even notice.
Conspiracy incoming:
The cops knew what Dahmer was doing, they just didn't give a shit. He killed a bunch of people the cops wanted to kill themselves.

I don’t think you would even call that a conspiracy theory, that’s just what was obviously happening.
There are stories of Gary Ridgeway's co-workers jokingly calling him "Green River Gary" before he was caught because he gave off serial killer vibes.
Documentaries always like to show them as geniuses because it's more exciting than the idea that people are oblivious and law enforcement isn't always effective.
There was one fan fiction where the A-Team was abducted by aliens. Let's say they promptly broke out of confinement, locked themselves in a room with a bunch of alien goodies and went underground in a nebula. That was a fun one.

Until the combat vet gets triggered by his PTSD, but then we already have Rambo.
Instead of a serial killer, maybe an obsessive weirdo who can figure out how anything works (and how they can be made to not work) and really, really wants to go home.
The aliens keep trying to find their captive, but parts of the ship keep breaking.

Actually yeah.
I struggled with that show when I was a kid. I didn't understand the point. Because my family is... just like that. Dear old Dad, my uncles, even my mom who made her own wedding dress on a treadle sewing machine.

Have you seen Predators? This is directly addressed in that movie.
Okay, so the aliens don't abduct him. They pose as humans, ala They Live or Men In Black. They don't know he knows they're aliens. They're his family, friends, and business partners.
