Fun fact, the heavy white face paint/"makeup", and beauty marks of both men and women of this era in France were to cover up the rashes, pockmarks, scars and sores brought on by rampant outbreaks of Syphilis! The powdered wigs, too, covered the hair loss and lesions caused by the disease. They also wore stong perfumes to cover up the stench of open untreated syphilitic sores and skin decay! 🙃Horrifying!
