Yeah, it's certainly not the case for everyone, but damn is it so much more a common backstory than anything else.
The shift in the 1970s from "they were born a monster" to "what made them a monster?" is honestly embarrassingly late on our anthropologic timeline.
Interestingly enough, lead exposure may have played more of a role than previously thought as well.
