And then the apostles immediately split themselves and the church. Culminating in the split of the greco-orthodox and Catholic churches, which themselves have splintered, because you all are hateful people who are following a book written by apocalyptic Jews, converted into apocalyptic Christians.

I don't have to know the entire damn history of the founding of other religions, and their founding books in self defense. I have had to with Christianity in general, and Catholics specifically. You don't know what persecution is you practice it on yourselves and others constantly.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf -2 points 2 months ago (15 children)

Saint Cephas is the First Pope, and Jesus Christ made him the Rock of His Church (The Catholic Church)

We know what persecution is

we were persecuted in almost every nation until the 300s and we are still persecuted a LOT in the global south

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (14 children)

I don't care what lies you believe, about the history of your oppressive belief system. I will admit that your religion did face a fair bit of persecution in the first few hundred years of the various sects, until they turned around and became global persecutors. I will listen to the archaologists and historians, not fanfic weebs.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

we were and are persecuted in a lot of places

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

As I said, you brought it on yourselves in the tiny amount of places that it might happen. You're a hateful religion that likes killing people who don't want shit to do with your hateful book.

Because every single form of culture it has spawned used the book to be imperialist murderous fucks. That's how. It tells you to kill all sorts of people all the time. Though shalt not murder was immediately given terms and conditions.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf -2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Thou shalt not Murder is a commandment, no matter what, dont murder

and verses?

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Well you fuckers don't follow that commandment as much as you possibly can. Why don't you try following your own shitty book and leaving people alone?

[–] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

But killing is okay if it's "justified," then it doesn't count as murder.

Fucking death cult.

"Do what I say, or suffer."

That is not love. That is control. That is abuse.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"I died for your sins so you may be free of them, son. You may choose to follow me or not."

[–] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"What's sin, dad?"

"It's the innate desire to break my rules."

"Where did that come from?"

"I gave you the right to choose, but with flawed biological processes, ensuring you would piss me off so I have an excuse to beat you. I could have done literally anything, but I chose this."

It is not love.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"What's sin"

"It is an act of death (mortal sins), you seperate yourself from God when you commit them and you also ruin your life when you commit them"

"Where did that come from?"

"Satan convinced Adam and Eve to eat the apple. God gave us free will but so that we could follow him willingly in faith. It is us that corrupt what he has made for good"

[–] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

God gave us free will but so that we could follow him willingly in faith

If he wanted us to follow him...

...he could have just made us follow him. We'd be better off without the free will, we wouldn't need emotions or thoughts at all. No suffering.

But even if you want to pretend free will exists (still waiting for any evidence that it does), god, being ALL-POWERFUL, had literally infinite ways he could have made us and our world such that we would all believe in him without compromising our free will.

God is stupid. Shockingly unimaginative.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He didn't want to create brainless automatons. Love has to be consensual to be love.

[–] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

It's not consensual under threat. That's an ultimatum, not love. That's using guilt and fear to manipulate us, not love.

And, AGAIN: ALL-POWERFUL. No limits to his power, right? Therefore, no excuse for suffering. He wants us to suffer because he's vain and cruel.

Or, more likely, he does not exist.
