No, you don't have to play it, but if you want to without giving Rockstar money, the option will be available eventually. I'll urge people not to give a company money for a game, but I'm not going to tell them not to play it at all. The game WILL be massively popular and WILL be talked about regardless of what you do, so just doing your part of not paying $80+ for it is good enough.
