I think its a bit nuanced. But you are correct.

  • Not owning physical media means a much smaller or non-existent 2nd hard market. Spawn-wave (another youtube channel) has been talking about this for years now. Its...not good.
  • Louis is almost always at the for-front of the conversations about true ownership. You are correct, if you dont own the thing, you end up in situations where things can be taken back without recourse. And physical media, while great, could be just odes to download the actual game/media.

My personal thought on the matter: If you cant run a thing outside of an internet connection (and its tied to another system) then the user doesn't really own it. Theres a reason my ebook readers dont connect to the internet. And why I have a collection of fat hard drives with stuff the family has collected. And physical media.
