I usually take this route and it's easier to find barebones machines with no ram/ssd installed or just a lower quantity of RAM than I wanted. I purchase RAM separately to install. If the machine comes with RAM that gets taken out for upgrade I sell it back into the market if it's worth it, or sometimes it goes down the line to one of my other machines. You can get some pretty dope deals this way with what I think is minimal extra effort.
