Some anti-clickbait: Duck boats are WWII military amphibious vehicles used in battles such as Normandy, later sold to touring companies as military surplus. They were difficult to maintain, especially since spare parts tended to also only be available via military surplus and weren't in new condition. This led to mechanical failures that caused highway crashes and sunk boats that were death traps because the boats had windows and canopies that trapped people with life jackets and those without had a harder time making it to the surface after being able to escape.
