There's always something new, emotions aren't finite. Pretty arrogantly lazy to conclude there's nothing better than one's existing experiences.
Having seen the movie, it's not so much arrogance and laziness (though there's some mental laziness to him as well), as existential dread, post-divorce pessimism, and general weltschmerz ๐คท๐ป
