Fediverse vs Disinformation

2143 readers
136 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

What the hell do these other Genocides that the US, the country I am from, has FAR less direct impact on than the Palestinian Genocide have to do with the legitimacy of my interest in wanting the Palestinian Genocide to stop?

Replace me with Hasan Piker in that question and I ask you again, what does it have to do with Hasan Piker as regards to the Palestinian Genocide?

You are committing a textbook case of whataboutism.

...and for the record no Hasan Piker does not deny the Holomodor what the hell? Cite your sources fool.

I am uninterested in your feelings on what Hasan Piker thinks about the Uhygurs because China is a separate empire and what is happening there is under the direct mechanisms of the Chinese state and all of the politics that entails. What we can do is at best indirect, so sure let us talk about it but don't you dare try to push forward the idea that somebody FROM THE US like me should turn away from the Palestinian Genocide to focus on the Uhygur Genocide.

To accurately understand what is happening with the Uhygurs from the perspective of the US you have to account for the lens distortion of US culture and media AND Chinese culture and media and once you do that sufficiently for a given topic you then are learning about something that your country has an indirect connection to. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned but shame on you for suggesting it as a distraction to take my focus away from a Genocide occuring under the empire of the US with US weapons and Diplomatic support that is against the interests of the US people, the Palestinian People, Jews across the world and in the end the Israeli people.

(Repost, didn't know about the no twitter link rule) Damn, sounds like the guy's really invested in the Isreal-Palestine conflict. What's his solution/recommendation we should do?

this?

Because I don't have an issue denying entry to people advocating for military sabotage in your country. Also funny to pretend Israel is pulling the strings when the UK literally sanctioned members of the Israeli government XD Like, no Hasan, it's not Israel, it's you supporting military sabotage XD

Couldn't find any explicit denial of the Holodomor. He just conveniently doesn't know why there are so many russian-speaking people in the east of Ukraine. Curious how he understands, that "large number of Jews in the West Bank" is not a valid argument.
