That is a myth that originated from the Michael Moore movie Sicko. It's not actually true, but people keep repeating it like it is.

Obama told host Matt Lauer that "when you actually look at the bill itself, it incorporates all sorts of Republican ideas. I mean a lot of commentators have said this is sort of similar to the bill that Mitt Romney, the Republican governor and now presidential candidate, passed in Massachusetts. A lot of the ideas in terms of the exchange, just being able to pool and improve the purchasing power of individuals in the insurance market, that originated from the Heritage Foundation. ..."

It's not a myth but sure keep saying it ignoring all the facts in front of you

You're proving my point. The idea of pooling the purchasing power of individuals is the only part that came from the Heritage Foundation and it's not like that is an original or new idea. That is what Social Security is based on. The rest is just Obama trying to give Republicans reasons not to hate the plan.

It's not at all comparable to Social Security. One is an actual social safety net designed to have the government provide at least a small amount of safety net.

The ACA, Romneycare and the heritage plan are all about not providing any safety for the citizens but ensuring the health insurance industry is taken care of at the expense of the citizens. This is simply because they can't handle the thought of actually supporting citizens with an actual Healthcare System people can afford.

Hell the Heritage Foundation was proud of Romneycare and only attacked the ACA as it was a win for dems as it was their plan and couldn't admit the dems did it because of how racist they are.

The idea of pooling the purchasing power of individuals

Except the ACA fails to accomplish anything close to that. It's not designed for it simply requiring minimum levels of coverage. It isn't even an option in most states. As others have stated it doesn't matter if a person is insured if getting treatment still bankrupts them.

You are entitled to this opinion but it doesn't make it fact.

If you have any facts to the contrary please provide them. It's well documented to be designed for insurance companies not the people, if it were we'd have universal health care like the rest of the civilized world instead of being beholden to for profit companies in order to get treatments

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, sorry, you don't get to say your claims are well documented without providing evidence and then demand I provide evidence in the same sentence.

Also, realize that universal health insurance doesn't equate to no private for-profit insurance companies or that there is a single-payer. For example Germany has a multi-payer model with both private nonprofit and public for-profit insurance options. IIRC Japan is privately owned nonprofit with single payer. And Italy is single payer with a sort of hybrid public/private delivery structure. Shit is complicated.

YeahI can when you've ignored everything people have presented you. Especially when you have done nothing to warrant any additional effort.

It's really not in other places as it's usually supplement insurance people can get not their only options. American only makes it hard because it's designed to milk citizens dry or allow them to die/suffer because they can't afford it after the insurance they pay for does nothing.

Btw saying it's complicated is just your opinion and needs citations.

I'm impressed using trump to try and make dems look better for their failures 😂
