There is apparently a service that will offer dropping woodchips or logs at your house for free. Arborists will do this instead of paying fees to dump them.

While I've been signed up for a while, I haven't received any drops but I thought others would like to try.

I've received a few drops from ChipDrop over the past few years and it's great. You can request either chips, logs, or a combination. You also have the option to pay up to $80 (this may be the fee that ChipDrop charges the arborist) to offset their cost and incentivize them to deliver to you instead of another person in your area offering less. I have never paid a portion of that fee and have still received deliveries, so it's very optional but may be helpful in a competitive area.

When you're selected to receive a delivery the arborist usually (but not always) contacts you for details or just to give you an idea when they're arriving. As I have frequent needs for wood chips I like to exchange contact information with the arborist so they can contact me directly and save the fee. I've also had decent luck calling arborists in the area and telling them what I'm looking for. More often than not they know if and when they'll be in my area in the near future or will at least keep me in mind for future jobs. I didn't realize how time consuming and possibly expensive it can be for them to offload their chips, so they appreciate streamlining that process.
