Hello new Lemmy friends!
Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.
The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.
Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

Her post is moronic. Why is she always comparing herself to women with abs or a "smooth stomach" (her words)? She's extremely ignorant of anyone else's experience but her own. Plenty of women with visible abs, including elite athletes, are trolled online for showing their bodies, and many of them are sexually harassed. Why can't the BirdsPapaya just show up, if she's so confident? Why does her being "present" require her to assume or undermine women's bodies that don't look like hers? She's such a twat and a professional victim.
Meanwhile hunter mcgrady keeps getting asked to be on SI....
Do you think it has ever occurred to Bird that she isn’t a professional model and that could have something to do with not getting professional modelling jobs?
I've always wondered why she doesn't have a modelling agent. You'd think after the thunderous applause at Miami Swim Week, IMG would be calling. If her face card was authentic, she would have been scouted as a teen or 20-something for a Toronto modelling agency. Toronto had the world's largest photography facility for catalogues until 2008. Sears, LL Bean, Victoria's Secret, JCPenney, Spiegel, plus all the Canadian department stores shipped their product to be shot at this massive facility. They always needed plus-size models; they'd advertise in newspapers for them. Where was Sarah, and her doe eyes and flawless face?
Maybe she was too busy becoming a professionally trained vocalist to model! 😂

I think it has the most to do with her personality and how she carry’s herself. Everything about her is so forced. I think people just don’t want to be around her. Remember her awkward self at the end of the SI runway.
Truthfully I think it’s because she has absolutely no experience whatsoever in speaking on these things. She only knows about herself because she has spent her life consumed with HER. It’s why her content is such a vacuum because, well, it’s just HER. She hasn’t spent all the time on the internet learning or studying…it’s just “here is my experience”. Women can relate because duh, however it’s just a lather rinse repeat. There is no growth or expansion on her part. It’s always ME ME ME because that’s all she knows. For such a complex issue that she presents every day she uses surface information she gathers from silly or emotional reels that do nothing but keep people asleep. We need to care more about this world we live in and where our children and grandchildren will live than what our face or body looks like. Declaring what size I order in a pair of pants and selling it to sleepers is NOT IMPORTANT WORK.
Has she ever considered the women with abs or a ‘smooth’ stomach are showing their bodies exercising? They aren’t just posing in their bathrooms in their swimsuits and underwear. I believe most of them aren’t scheduling a vanity photoshoot every couple of months to document their lives. I admit I haven’t watched this story because I need a break from her and her antics but this sounds like another post just to elicit comments to stroke her ego.
I think people are sick of her shit, the comments on the new vanity shoot are low.
I really hope so! I had some time this morning so I went to her FB and scrolled through her photos. She’s been pushing the exact same thing and posting, virtually, the same pics for years. There is nothing new. She talks about documenting her life but when you scroll through them it’s clear she’s never going to know how she really looked.
