I don't understand. Are these 2 things different? Are these not both just different adjectives for the same philosophy?

No, not at all. Mamdani isn't technically a leftist; he's centre-left, but not leftist.

Edit: idk why I'm downvoted. I made it clear that I'm a leftist and not capitalist.
