You can disregard OS and still contribute to it due to financial and corporative sense. The principle works as an evolutive algorithm and is ideologically agnostic. You don't need to like FB or China for contributing to OS, they just do because it's in their interests, and it's in our interest, so whatever works.

Just use the code, fork it if you want to maintain it, and that's it.

Going into these Puritan rants, twitter dramas, and character attacks will not write you code, nor make one better at writing it.

Donating to FUTO will not make them rich, it just supports their projects and interest in keeping them up. You don't need to love them or agree with their views.

If they at some point deviate and go proprietary, anyone is free to fork their work till that point and continue. And someone will probably do.

See no reason on wasting time on dissecatting people, much less corporatist preachers.

Let's check out some this Yarvin guy's views:

  • liberal democracy is a Matrix-like totalitarian system, it must be replaced with a "authoritarian technocratic monarchy" (that is, a monarchy headed by a dictatorial CEO)
  • He believes that this CEO-dictator should consolidate power and "fire all the bureaucrats", calling this movement "RAGE" (remove all government employees, yikes!)
  • he thinks that white people are inherently smarter than black people and supports eugenics
  • "Hitler only acted in self-defense!"
  • In response to the 2011 terrorist attacks by neo-Nazis in Norway, he critiqued them not because lots of people were killed, including children, but because "it would not be effective to overthrow Norway's communist government"
  • he's a supported of modern day slavery, and he believes that "some races are more suited to be slaves"

I only stated what the article said. I believe that funding of community maintained projects, by FUTO or otherwise, is great! But personally, I hope this is a popular opinion, but I personally wouldn't give money to a company that platforms an actual self-proclaimed fascist. Everything I've heard about that Yarvin guy is pure insanity! I would prefer to directly support the projects that I care about.

What, so you think donating money to Facebook is helping to support the open-source movement? And what does CCP have to do with this? Their open-source approach mainly focuses on their domestic market, particularly for governmental purposes where they don't want American bigcorps to peer into (anything from messenging clients to military technologies would fit into that)
