I hate a bad/cheap shag cut. There were a lot of “shag” haircuts in the early 70s. But just like a lot of 70s fashion, there was the higher end well done, and the cheap Sears catalog version. I’m honestly surprised this haircut hasn’t had a resurgence, since it’s easy to care for. I’m guessing it’s because too many people end up looking like they have a mullet.
Good shag cut: Jane Fonda in Klute.
Bad shag cut: Susannah York in X, Y, and Zee.
Good shag cut: Florence Henderson in later seasons of The Brady Bunch.
Side note: Robert Reed’s perm that he got in later seasons of Brady Bunch that he sported for almost the rest of his life was just awful.
