It is my sincere hope that times have changed for the mental health of teens.
The overall concept that it's normal for highschoolers to be morose, melancholy, disaffected, and depressed, effectively masked some actual real problems myself and others were having. At least, that was the overarching attitude at the time.
If nothing else, the burgeoning awareness around neurodivergence gives me hope that people are getting accommodations and the support they need. Even if it's only from their peers.
Edit: Oh, and the fact that society is trauma-bonded to the tune of repeated nightmares about locker combinations, attending class naked, and not knowing the location of you next class, etc., is worrysome. Trauma shouldn't be normalized and, IMO, suggests that something is fundamentally wrong with what we put people through at school.
