Future fiction loves bringing up contemporary (to the reader) figures and events. Star trek is obsessed with it.

Which makes sense since its just social commentary in space

idk we know egyptian pharaohs it's not that hard to imagine that he will be remembered, especially among politicians and history buffs

There's some weird appearances of contemporary art too. Pretty sure Vincent van Gogh works appear in chapterhouse.
