Why does this person think artemis (boeing) is a more communal mission than anything spacex does?
Probably because they went around the moon which is perceived as not for profit endeavour to further humanity, unlike SpaceX polluting space with its outrageous satellites. I'm aware that SLS is just a jobs programme, but despite that the whole premise of Artemis is a little more visionary.
No love to Elon but... SpaceX's primary business and goal has nothing to do with starlink, which is just a fundraising venture.
The goal has always been mars, with Starship and the superheavy launcher.
If they just wanted to put up starlink, the falcon 9 system is more than capable, hence why it is the most flown space launch platform in human history, by quite a large margin.
Also Musk is to SpaceX as Henry Ford is to the modern Ford motor corporation. He's locked out of pretty much all decisions, he's been locked out of the engineering decisions for years, and besides him buying and then reselling access like he did in ukraine he's not really involved.
I know Artemis has attracted people that haven't paid attention to space flight since the 1960s, but there's a reason the ISS is only going to use spacex capsules on the international side until it's decommissioned; and there's a reason why any on-moon missions are going to be pretty much just spaceX's vehicles; at least according to all NASA plans for the next decade.
A nazi with political connections who keeps dropping completely unworkable tasks onto competent engineers and administrators, and also lost the company a shitton of money because he couldn't stop disseminating nazi propaganda?
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I assume it’s just because you aren’t saying “Elon bad”. What you said is accurate with the exception of the last part, because Blue Origin is also in the HLS (lunar lander) business now and there’s a decent chance theirs is ready first.
Despite the stink of Elon on SpaceX, I bet many of these same people will closely follow a Starship HLS lunar landing. It’ll still be cool.
Just for the clarity of the record:
So you've got four giant American defense contractors, and two European defense contractors owned by French, German, Spain, and Italy.
Maybe the communal part is the community of western defense contractors.
The question is why do you think spacex is an equal or greater communal effort.
Comparing accomplishments is the outcome, not the effort, therefore not the communal effort.
