when people attempt to justify consuming animal products.
Sure, it may be morally abhorrent, unhealthy and environmentally destructive, but I get a few minutes of pleasure off of it!
They don't set those concerns aside; they do mental gymnastics.
You're giving those animals a life and a good death! All things die. Ackchually plants signal an alert too. They don't suffer or love like we do. God said it's OK. I buy fair trade lamb. Not until capitalism is over. It's our culture.
I simply prefer it over starving.
Are you adding to the meme excuses or genuinely think this is a good excuse? Because I have two answers depending on your intention.
Option 1: good one.
Option 2: Do you live in the Arctic or somewhere where plants don't grow? No vegan who's serious about this has ever starved. There are entire cultures and religions that are plant based and their choice of food has never starved them.
No, I'm dirt poor, tried to sneak in a vegan diet for other reasons, it backfired in my face horribly.
I am just that selfish, that I would rather eat an animal to have enough strength than starve.
Hate all you want.
I don't think it's black and white so I'm not hating, but the cultures I mentioned are already some of the poorest in the world so the cost shouldn't be a factor. It definitely requires huge adjustments in thinking and approach to food. I know it took me something like three years to be fully comfortable with eating 99% plant based. Like I said, if you're serious about it, I think you can do it.
If I get away with it in this god-forsaken country, I get away with it.
Those are reasons, but they're not good reasons. People are just too comfortable going with what they've known their whole lives, and changing takes effort, which they're too lazy and scared to do. So they just keep going along, possibly thinking less than the cattle they're consuming.
Though I'd also argue you can consume animals in a "morally good way" if you shoot them in the forest or raise them with all the love, so they have only that "one bad day". That of course requires denying the idea that humans can be morally above nature and be responsible of not making choices that cause harm to other creatures because of the ability to have awareness of the choice. But that thinking is internally consistent; is it right is the question
