Because a huge swath of Republicans were obsessed with the Epstein files.

It was a conservative darling for years, the issue for many voters. You don’t get how big of a deal it was in the US before it was common knowledge that Trump was in them.

It’s why it’s the only controversy Trump isn’t leaning into. It’s simply too much of a conservative cornerstone for him to deal with.
