Russian channels are reporting that large portions of Moscow are currently without power, amidst a large-scale drone attack currently underway against the Russian capital by Ukraine,’ the account posted this evening.

Sharing images of the reported blackouts, Volodymyr Zelensky’s former press secretary, Iuliia Mendel, said: ‘Total blackout hits Moscow region is reported on social media: over 600,000 people plunged into darkness for more than four hours — no electricity, no mobile signal, total isolation.’

Global oil prices crashed nearly 18% in 2025—Brent’s steepest fall since 2020 and its third consecutive annual loss, a losing streak unprecedented in the benchmark’s history, Reuters reported. Cheap oil hurts any producer.

For Russia, it’s catastrophic—because Moscow isn’t just fighting a bad market. It’s fighting Ukrainian drones and Western sanctions at the same time.

...

None of it lasted. German industry analysts noted that despite constant geopolitical tension, 2025 saw no sustained supply disruptions—risk premiums were priced out as quickly as they appeared.

Structural forces prevailed: US shale production reached new records, OPEC+ added 2.9 million barrels per day to the market since April, and Chinese demand stagnated.

Ukraine is ultimately an oil war, not to obtain oil but to force Russia out of a shrinking market of buyers. Given this framing it is easy to see why Russia is isolating itself by insisting on being the oil power to be given the boot out of world oil markets. Even worse for Russia, China is leading the vanguard of the green energy revolution and Russia has done zilch, nada, NOTHING to prepare for it... and China is supposedly their ally?

This is a dead end for Russia and it is stunning see such a major military power break its back upon denial about an inveitable future.

Also consider how Trump attacking Venezuela for BS reasons fits into this perspective as an attempt by Trump to force Venezuela out of the worlds oil markets as a supplier and prop up the price of oil for Putin and US oil companies.

The Arctic is warming more than twice as fast as the rest of the world, and no one is seeing this more clearly than Russia. Home to more than a fifth of the planet’s forests, the world’s fourth-biggest greenhouse gas emitter, Russia has experienced two consecutive years of record-breaking wildfires that released emissions equivalent to those of medium-sized countries like Spain. Additionally, permafrost is thawing fast, damaging infrastructure and housing. However, it seems as though Russia has no plans to invest heavily in renewable energy, choosing instead to focus on natural gas, which is generally non-renewable. How will being left behind in the global dash for clean energy affect the country?

...

Entire regions in Russia are dependent on coal or oil for jobs and the social infrastructure that companies still maintain, a legacy of the Soviet era. In recent years, Russia has bet its economic and geopolitical future on natural gas, building new pipelines to China, Turkey and Germany. It wants to own a quarter of the global LNG market, up from 0% in 2008 to around 8% today, especially as oil and gas producers are struggling to make a profit amid falling crude oil prices.

It was this choice to double down on fossil fuels that made war and downfall inveitable for Russia.

Ukrainian forces appear to be undertaking their own [Battlefield Air Interdiction] campaign that will likely parallel that of Russia. Ukrainian forces have noticeably increased their mid-range strikes against Russian energy military assets throughout December 2025 and appear to have significantly escalated such strikes on December 30 to 31.

...

Ukrainian forces likely seek to use these mid-range strikes to counter recent Russian advances. This Ukrainian BAI campaign is still in its early stages, so the immediate effects on Russian offensive operations are still unclear.

This is how initiative is seized.

"We are showing the system to partners in Europe. There is already interest, but large-scale purchases will follow once the full inspection cycle is completed. We are also working on installing various payloads, from combat modules to laser systems," Belbas said in an interview with NV.

Honestly I would think traditional explosives like missiles and airburst munitions would be a better fit for unmanned air defense systems, they are inherently dangerous to operate if you come under attack unlike a laser system. This is a minor aside though, this platform seems perfect for airfield defense (also emergency response, fighting dangerous very high temperature aircraft fuel fires for example) and long distance backline air defense patrols on traditional road systems.

What is this book about? It demonstrates that the current wartime narrative – namely, that “Russia is the victim of a Western conspiracy and bears no responsibility for the outbreak of the war” – is deeply rooted in a historical and cultural context. It argues that Russian wars are fought not only on the battlefield, but also within the realm of ideas and public consciousness. As a result, psychological pressure, propaganda, agitation and the use of entrenched stereotypes and symbols all form part of the ongoing struggle over Ukraine.

In this exclusive winter 2025 situation report, former SEAL Team 6 Squadron Leader Chuck Pfarrer exposes the catastrophic reality of the Russian offensive near Pokrovsk where invading forces are suffering horrific losses of 180 soldiers per square kilometer. The analysis reveals shocking evidence that Moscow’s logistics have completely collapsed, forcing frontline units to use camels, donkeys, and civilian cars to resupply after losing 50,000 military trucks.

Kyiv Post Special Correspondent Jason Jay Smart guides the discussion through the tactical nightmare of 3D urban warfare where Ukrainian defenders hold a massive advantage and have turned the city into a kill box for Russian infantry. Pfarrer explains that despite Kremlin propaganda claiming victory, Russian troops are stalled and suffering from abysmal morale that has led to a spike in battlefield suicides.

The conversation highlights how the Russian military has devolved from a mechanized army into a disjointed force capable only of human wave attacks. Later, Jason Smart questions the strategic cost of these operations, with Pfarrer concluding that the sheer scale of personnel and equipment destruction means Russia will be unable to launch significant offensives for years to come regardless of whether they eventually capture the ruins of the city.

Khanskaya air base is used to base aircraft of Russia’s Aerospace Forces in the southern part of the country.

This facility has repeatedly been regarded as an important element of rear-area aviation logistics.

Distance is no safety from smaller unmanned sabotage, only mobility is. This is a major threat to fastjets as their use is so heavily tied to fixed infrastructure.

We should note right away that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression, the European Union has “resolutely” implemented 19 packages of sanctions against Russia. The largest sanctions packages and their impact were aimed at restricting Russia’s military-industrial complex and its energy revenues.

As the events of the last four years have shown, the economic consequences do not particularly bother the Kremlin’s dictator, who is ready to ruin his country for the sake of a mythical “rising up off its knees.”

...

At Kyiv Post, we provide detailed coverage of Ukraine’s “drone sanctions” against Russia. In particular, we wrote about how US intelligence provided Ukraine with the information necessary for the strikes. And the most important conclusion from our experts is very simple. The campaign by the Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS) under the command of the now legendary Robert “Madyar” Brovdi and other units of the Defense Forces created a domino effect: the destruction of Russian oil and gas facilities led to systemic distortions throughout the Russian economy.

Russia has not only lost a significant part of its technological capabilities to process oil, but it will also be unable to quickly restore them, as these are Western technologies, access to which is complicated by other sanctions.

Meanwhile, Trump claimed that "Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed," speaking alongside Zelensky, adding that Putin is "working with Ukraine" to open the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power plant.

"It's a big step when he's not bombing that plant," Trump said

After making this comment Trump, while leaving the stage, tripped on the bar he set for Putin and fell on his face.
